acrylics on canvas
I painted a series of five acrylic paintings inspired by my visit to Monet’s Show at the Vancouver Art Gallery during the summer of 2017. I was intrigued with his bold strokes that created the story in his work. Although, Monet’s colour palette appeared limited, his use of tertiary colours beside colours of varying temperatures captured the light and the movement in his scenes. The scale of his work clearly showed his use of mark making and patches of colours. There are no repetitive patterns from one area to the next, and no symmetry to the position of the flowers. Instead, Monet embraced the organic, gentle and irregular shapes which created a sense of motion in his paintings.
